Wonderful thoughts Michael.
Funny story....when my eldest daughter worked on a service project in Detroit during her Junior year of high school, her group was paired up with students from a high school in southwest Detroit. In making conversation she mentioned that her mother had graduated from Cass Tech. The group she was talking to looked at each other and said, " all the weird kids go there". And you know, looking back, we were certainly different! My neighborhood high school was Southeastern. It wasn't known then for the academic achievements of their students and certainly isn't known for graduating many students today. Cass was my salvation. It was and is a place where it is ok to be smart. It celebrated uniqueness and encouraged us to be the best at what we were willing to work to be. And yes it taught us that people are people where ever they are in life.
As far as how well we have done on our "shift" Michael, my grandson, a graduating senior from Bloomfield High School assures me that his generation is going to "clean up our mess".....
I wish I could have an hour with Mrs. Hamburger, Mrs. Sundstrom, Mr. Edwards, Miss Froude to show them how things turned out, that I was a student worthy of their efforts....I am grateful for all they taught me.
