The 50th reunion of the Cass Tech Class of 1964 is not just another Class Reunion but one which is quite special if not unique.
First, of course, we live in the first time in the history of theĀ world when so many graduates of fifty years ago are alive to see one another at such a reunion. Its unprecedented.
Second, our class was more racially, religiously, ethnically, and economically integrated than all but a few high schools in America. And we are not just the first results of the post-war baby boom, but the first graduates if the Civil Rights revolution.
I wish we had a way to share our thoughts on how things have turned out, our expectations versus our realizations as we reflect on our society.
As we observe the 60th anniversary of Brown v Board of Education we realize we were unusual to have studied in a heterogenous school. I wonder how it affected us.
